Lawrence Swearington

UPDATED January 9, 2023

I have recently received some updates from Rick Clowdus who provides a service to inmates in his area in Georgia and other places around the country.

Lawrence Swearigton has not been updated in 20 years! He has been baptized and is a member of the United Church of God. I had him on this page 20 years ago and would like to update this informaion

Lawrence Swearington #145972
Muskegon Correctional Facility
2400 S. Sherdian Drive
Muskegon, MI 49442

Note: Lawrence can also be reached thru the www.jpay.com site. One can look him up by keying in his number and state. It costs 25 cents per email but it seems to be more convenient and less costly than regular mail.

Lawrence and I (Rick Clowdus) have corresponded for about 20 years since I learned about him on your "prison page" at that time. He was formerly incarcerated at a facility in Lapeer, MI but in recent years he was transferred to the Muskegon facility.

UPDATED October 24, 2003

Dear Mr. Kubik,

Lawrence Swearington has asked the governor of Michigan to commute his sentence [it was denied, but he will keep trying].  He has been in prison for about 28 years.   He became converted while waiting trial for his crimes.  So all the time he has been in prison it has been as a converted individual.  He loves God, and his letters are so inspiring.  During a phone conversation, he agreed the prayers of the brethren would be beneficial.  He has never asked for commutation before.  Michigan is a very tough state on criminals, so his chances are not good; but we have access to our Great God who is so merciful.  Lawrence wants to get out, but he is striving to be content in a difficult situation and is quite willing to stay in prison for the rest of his life if God so wills.

Dear Mr. Kubik,

My husband and I continue to receive wonderfully encouraging letters from Lawrence.  Here are some quotes from his last letter dated August 14, 2000:  "Please allow me to clear something up.  According to the law of MI they do not have to parole me.  In my heart I believe God will arrange for me to be paroled.  I will not die in prison.  When I will be released I don't have a clue.  How I will be released, I don't have a clue.  What I do know is that the Father is ALWAYS with His children wherever we may be, under whatever circumstances we find ourselves.  His grace is sufficient for me!"

Lawrence Swearington in the summer of 2000
at his new location in Lapeer, Michigan

"Everyday in prison is not a stormy day.  When the storm does come I have refuge in God's sweet sweet love.  For 25 years He has kept me to grow under His watchful eye.  should I live another 25 years, I know He is the same yesterday, today and forever.  Each day allows me to be more like Him.  I can grow closer to Him no matter where I am.  I want to be removed from prison.  but I do not want to leave for the price of my salvation.  In 1977 I asked God to guide me.  Where He leads me I will follow.  He has guided me perfectly the last 23 years of my life.  I will not take back my promise to Him."

Thanks for adding this to Lawrence's page.  He is such a delight to write to.

Sincerely,

Donna Wamser

I received a nice letter from Lawrence Swearington today.  He has been transferred to the Thumb Correctional Facility.  It sounds like it is a better facility that the previous one.  You might be interested in a quote from his letter.  "...Now my primary Christian supports are the United Church of God family......"  He expresses his appreciation for the support of the brethren & emphasizes that it makes his life behind bars easier.

Here's his new address:

Lawrence Swearington is incarcerated in Michigan for life. He would appreciate hearing from you.

I would like to thank Donna Wamser who writes the following:

I did get a very nice letter late last week from Lawrence Swearington. He is still in prison and appreciates hearing from people. He said "around 15 brethren" have responded to his name being on your website. He writes to a lot of people "Some are in United, some are in Worldwide and some are from other churches." Last year he received 413 cards and letters and sent out 431 cards and letters. He corresponds to people in the United States, Canada, and Australia at this time, and has in the past corresponded to people in Englad,  New Zealand and the island of St. Lucia. "As time passes so do interests. God replaces those who stop writing, so that I am never without someone to share God's Word with."
