Nordic / Baltic / Eastern European Newsletter
December 20,
2009
Issue 12
|
Greetings!
We always enjoy writing to you through
this eNewsletter. We have exactly 300
subscribers and always appreciate feedback
from you. We like to hear about what God is
doing in this region of the world. A few
comments are included at the end of this
newsletter.
We would like to introduce you to an
online magazine (eZine) that the United
Church has produced for the past 11 years
called Virtual Christian Magazine. It
is a periodical that features articles
primarily about practical Christian living.
The articles are short, relevant and
designed to be read at your computer. Inside
this newsletter we include the table of
contents for the current December
edition. We have articles about knowing when
to speak and when not to, the importance of
family mealtime. Also, one that may be
of special interest in our area: Is
Religion Dead? You can easily go the
publication online at
www.vcmagazine.org.
In the November/December edition of the
Good News we once again included our
Nordic Newsletter. We are trying to get as
many as possible to subscribe to THIS
electronic eNews as it is produced more
often and much more economical to
distribute. Our circulation in the Nordic
countries has gone through a renewal cycle
and decreased some. We are always searching
for new subscribers, mostly through our
Internet keyword initiative.
We are planning trips to your area in
2010 and look forward to meeting a few new
people who have written in expressing
interest in the Good News
magazine. We received a welcoming note from
a family in Helsinki, Finland, but cannot
reach them. That would be an easy place to
visit as we go through there
regularly. Would you kindly write me again
at
vic@kubik.org?
There is no lack for work to develop
our area through subscribers to literature,
visits to the area and hopefully the
establishment of churches. We have hired
Natasha Weatherhead who speaks Russian
fluently and currently lives in
Barbados. Her visa is still in process to
emigrate to the United States and work from
our Home Office in Cincinnati. We were
hoping that this would happen in July. It is
already near the end of the year and her
application has still not been acted on by
Immigration Service.

Lambert

Our Associate Pastor Johnnie Lambert has had
his second knee replaced on December
10th. He is an indefatigable worker who has
devoted so much of his life to serving in
the Baltic States. He will be in Estonia and
visiting in the Baltic States throughout the
month of February. Johnnie would like to
write the following to all of you:
"I have gotten many cards and
reports of people praying for me in my
recovery. It is not feasible to write
individually to everyone and thank them for
their well wishes and prayers. Consequently
I am reduced to sending an e-mail to many
concurrently. This is one of my first
messages since the surgery last Thursday.
The surgery went
quite well. I had one episode of intense
pain on Thursday night, but finally I was
given some strong medication, so no real
problem. I am now walking without aids,
though very slowly and carefully. This
surgery seems if anything to progressing
even a little better than last April."
We hope you find this
newsletter of interest. Again, we always
appreciate hearing from you,
You can view
this newsletter plus all the previous ones
on the Web at
http://kubik.org/ucgee. If
you had this newsletter forwarded to you,
you can order your own automatic
subscription on that page. We always enjoy
hearing from you.
In Christ's service,
Victor Kubik

Senior Pastors Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio,
USA December 1-2
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pastors serving Nigeria
and Kenya are listening to a conference
presentation
|
Annually a conference is held at our Home Office in
Cincinnati, Ohio for pastors who serve
congregations in both the United States and
International areas. Johnnie Lambert and I were
present for meetings held on December 1st and
2nd. Other areas represented were the United
Kingdom, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria,
Asia/Philippines.
Each pastor gave a 15 minute update of
their region. For part of the
Nordic/Baltic/Eastern European presentation
we played part of a YouTube video about our
recent Fall Festival in Estonia.
This video has been viewed more than
1000 times on YouTube.
The presentations at the conference
included an opening message by President
Clyde Kilough about Godly Leadership.
Following that we heard about the need for
teamwork, 2010 Festival Planning (we again
plan to hold the Feast of Tabernacles in
Estonia September 23-30, 2010), Church
Education programs, budgets, the Good
Works Program, Ministerial Development
and ideas about preaching the Gospel in the
various areas. The conference was profitable
for exchange of ideas and practices.
Dan and Cindy Harper with
English as a Second Language
program.
Dan and Cindy Harper returned to Vinogradov,
Ukraine, this summer to serve at the second English
summer camp program at the Light of Love
mission for street children. The program was
sponsored by
LifeNets.
Cindy Harper wrote the following for United
Church of God's December 2009 United
News:
Over the last two years my husband Daniel and
I have been blessed with the opportunity to travel
and volunteer in countries in Eastern Europe and
Africa. This summer we returned to Africa to help
with United Youth Camps and to western Ukraine to
take part in an ESL (English as a second language)
program for street children for the second year in a
row.
Featured Booklet this Month
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Many
people are shocked to discover the origins of our
most popular religious holidays. They are also
surprised to find that the days God commands us to
observe in the Bible-the same days Jesus Christ and
the apostles kept-are almost universally ignored.
Why? Also, why are today's supposedly Christian
holidays observed with so many rituals and customs
that are not sanctioned anywhere in the Bible? In
this booklet you'll discover detailed answers to
these questions.
Christmas: The Untold Story
Christmas is one of the world's most popular
holidays, celebrated by people of many faiths.
Yet the holiday has a strange and convoluted
past, one hinted at in such puzzling symbols as
decorated trees, holly wreaths and mistletoe. You can see a PDF, download to a mobile
device, hear an audio mp3 version or actually
order a conventional copy of this booklet
directly from this link.
