UPDATED January 20, 2009
Edna Mae (Kersey) Rush, 95, a member of the United Church of God, breathed her last early Sunday afternoon January 18 in the arms of her daughters Jamie (Snyder) and Francis (Rush Smith) following a long illness. Her desire to peacefully die at home was fulfilled as a hospice setting was maintained after her release from Community Hospital in December. Her doctors and hospice professionals visiting her openly commented on and marveled at her strength and what was described as her “simple, innocent faith” in her last days.
The Rush family and Jamie and Michael Snyder wish to thank everyone for their prayers and expressions of love in many cards, letters and e-mails. Edna, together with her husband Ted, were long-time members of the Auditorium A.M. congregation in Pasadena and the Indianapolis congregation. Edna was very grateful for the direct visits of long-time Church friends in her last days, and she remained confident in the faith to the very end, asking that the book of I Peter be read to her several times over. She was openly grateful that she was able to physically attend the 2008 Feast of Tabernacles and was appreciative of the many kindnesses shown to her in what became her final Feast for this age. Now she awaits the fulfillment of that Feast in the coming Kingdom of God.

Jamie and Michael Snyder request prayers for Jamie’s 95-year-old mother Edna Rush. Edna, who attends the Indianapolis, Indiana congregation of United (and a former long-time member of the Auditorium A.M. congregation in Pasadena with her late husband Ted, recently spent five days in the hospital for treatment of alarmingly high blood pressure. While there, tests showed that her kidney function is near failure. Edna suffered a minor heart attack about a year ago and recently has had difficulty breathing. She returned to our home on Dec. 15 and her bedroom has been converted into a hospice environment with oxygen and other supportive equipment. Arrangements have been made for her to have nursing care and professional monitoring support at home.
Edna attended the Feast last fall and hopes to continue to attend services in Indianapolis as her health permits. She remains remarkably cogent and alert, but it quite frail physically. The next few weeks will be critical and she is trusting in God for support and for His will to be done. She has faced similar issues in the past and has improved.
She does appreciate her Church friends, so if anyone is inclined to send a card, note or an e-mail, please use the following address:
