UPDATED November 17, 2007

From Rick Beam, pastor, Paducah, KY; Cape Girardeau/Poplar Bluff, MO:

Alice Bryan, a member of the Paducah, Kentucky, congregation, had surgery in August to remove a malignant melanoma from her left heel.  Testing of the surrounding tissue and lymph nodes showed the area to be clear of cancer.  A skin graft on the heel took well.  The Bryans would like to thank everyone for the cards, calls and prayers during this trying time.  Such have been very encouraging.

Hello Everyone!

We saw Dr. Koolmorgen this morning and got a good report. He wants Alice to begin putting her heel to the floor now and said it wouldn't hurt to get it wet by taking a shower. She's planning on a bath this afternoon :-) He made us an appointment for two weeks from now and said that MAYBE we could think about going home after that. Isn't that great??!! Again, Thank You Every One for your prayers and caring.

Our love,

Alice & Bill

UPDATED August 19, 2007

Hello Everybody!

We got up at four AM yesterday in order to get Alice to the hospital in Des Moines by six. We soon found out that her surgery would be delayed. We were afraid it would be another day and that we had made all that effort for nothing but the surgeon needed to take an emergency case ahead of her and her surgery was begun about noon. Before the surgery they injected radioactive dye of some sort into her heel and made scans of her lymph nodes in the leg. She said being stuck with that needle was the most severe pain she had ever experienced and they did it four times! The surgery went smoothly and was over by twelve-thirty. The doctor who did it seemed pleased. Alice stood it well and while she was still a little groggy when we saw her in her room she was soon feeling much more like her usual self. Besides removing the spot on her heel they removed a lymph node from her groin for testing and skin from her thigh to graft on to her heel. She has a very sore leg! They kept her over
night for observation and released her from the hospital about one PM today and we brought her back here to Joe and Mary's house. Joe's wife Mary stayed overnight with her in the hospital to keep her company and to help with her needs. Joe and I went to visit her this morning before going to services in Des Moines and found her in very good spirits. We left shortly after services to pick her up at the hospital. They made arrangements for a wheel chair and we bought her a walker to help her get around. She can't put her foot on the floor until her skin graft heals. We won't know the results of the test on the removed tissue and the lymph node until Monday. She will have a visit with the doctor sometime next week. We will tell you more as soon as we know.

Please keep praying

Bill Bryan

A lesion appeared on Alice Bryan’s left heel some time ago. A biopsy was taken on Monday the ninth of July and on Friday the thirteenth she learned that she has malignant melanoma. She and her husband, Bill, are going to Iowa to stay with their son Joel while she receives treatment. They plan to be in Iowa on the weekend of August fourth and will see a doctor there on the sixth. They have no idea yet how long they will be there. Please continue to pray for a good outcome.
