Worker Bees in Lafayette, Indiana

May 13, 2008

The Lafayette, Indiana United Church of God started the Worker Bee program for our children.  It was inspired from seeing a similar program in the Ft. Worth, TX congregation when Victor and Beverly Kubik visited there last year.

The Worker Bee program is designed to encourage and teach children about the importance of serving others and of commitment. Each child that wants to participate is asked to sign a contract to be a Worker Bee. Every Worker Bee then is given an apron uniform to wear while they are serving.

Each week the Worker Bees check-in to receive their apron and what tasks they are to carry out that day. They assist church members when they need help bringing things in or assist with the church library. One Worker Bee helped place water on the podium before services for the speakers while another handed out hymnals. The Worker Bees are the biggest help when we have a potluck. They set the tables and helped set up the food. They helped clean-up and put the tables and chairs away. One hard working Worker Bee washed dishes!

The Worker Bees are having a great time. They are easily seeing the joy and reward in serving others and being a part of the congregation.
