1999 UCG Feast site
Tartu, Estonia

March 15, 1999

The Feast of Tabernacles will be held for the third year in a row in the charming city of Tartu, Estonia's second largest city situated along the picturesque banks of the river Emajogi. tartuair.jpg (31374 bytes)Tartu was an important Hanseatic town linking Western Europe with Russia in the 13-15th centuries. Tourist attractions of Tartu today are the classical buildings from the 18th - 19th centuries, districts with unique wooden architecture and Dome Hill.

Services will be held in the very center of Tartu at the Werner Restaurant. We will have exclusive occupancy of the second floor of the restaurant and have group lunches there following our meetings. Our first services and a reception will begin as the eve of the Feast of Tabernacles on Friday September 24th.

Temperatures will range in the 45-65F range in the day and drop to 30-40 in the evening. For those who have gone to the Wisconsin Dells, Saratoga or the Poconos, the climate is quite similar.

We will be staying at the Pallas Hotel in the centre of town. Services will be a seven minute walk away. The approximate cost for housing is $60 per night double, $70 deluxe double, $50 single and $90 for a suite. The cost of food is very reasonable.

There is no need to rent a car as taxis are plentiful and inexpensive. estmap.jpg (23512 bytes)

The closest airport is at the capital Tallinn 120 miles to the northwest. A comfortable coach costing about $7 takes you to within 200 yards of the Pallas Hotel. We plan to make a group travel plan available for those who would like to use it. Cost of travel from North America will be in the $925 per person range. For non-US citizens there will be a $50 visa fee.

During the Feast we plan to make a full day visit to the capital of Tallinn. Also we plan an afternoon excursion into the beautiful countryside.

We would like to limit our attendance to about 50 people this year.

This year we plan to have a 21 piece Estonian folk singing and dancing ensemble perform for us one afternoon or evening.

A highlight is getting to know the brethren from Estonia and Lithuania. Services will be in English with simultaneous Estonian and German translations.
