Henrikas Klovas visits
the United States
May 3-15, 2000
Henrikas Klovas who serves the United Church of God in the Baltic Republics and Eastern Europe visited the United States from May 3 through May 15, 2000. He attended the General Conference of Elders in Cincinnati and was ordained an elder May 6th. He also visited the publishing facilities of Jim Hopkins in Columbus, Ohio and spoke in the Lafayette and Terre Haute, Indiana congregations on May 13th.
Sunday, May 14th was a special day as he visited his 88 year-old uncle Balys Klovas living near Michigan City, Indiana whom he had been writing to but had never seen . We drove up there from Indianapolis for the meeting.
Balys Klovas, an attorney, fled Lithuania during the German occupation when it was imminent that the Russians would be taking over the area. After the war he remained in Germany until 1949 when he emigrated to the United States. He lived in Massachusetts and the Chicago area. He currently lives a few hundred feet from the south shore of Lake Michigan. He was an auditor for much of his working career. He was very happy to see Henrikas and they talked animatedly for several hours during our visit. He also took us to the Dunes of the south side of Lake Michigan.
Henrikas performs an invaluable service in preaching the Gospel in the Baltic and Russian-speaking republics.
