- Everything about the 2000 Feast of Tabernacles in Estonia
For the fourth straight year we held the Feast of Tabernacles in Tartu, Estonia. We had a high attendance of 50 on opening night and during one of the public lectures. We were happy to have brethren come from Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine and 30 transfers from the United States. We had one baptism, Natasha Gromova from Belarus. She was baptized on October 18th.
Elders present were Henrikas Klovas from Lithuania, John Lambert from New York, Victor Kubik from Indiana and Bob Fahey from Chicago.
Bob Fahey provided tremendous speaking support by giving three sermons and two public Bible lectures. We had a total of eight new people become acquainted with the Church from the Tartu area.
Services were held at the newly remodeled Atlantis Conference Center on the Emajõe River. It was no more than a ten minute walk for most.
Our theme for the Feast was "Prepare for the Kingdom" as all messages touched on this subject.
We once again include the children from Tartu Emajõe Kool, which is the Estonian State School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Through the fundraising efforts of Gail and Karen Allwine a much needed cash gift of $1200 was made to the school and Joe and Roma Camerata brought 240 soft toys from Phoenix. Also, each Festival attendee from the United States was asked to donate a developmental toy and or classical musical CD.
Highlights of this year's Festival:
- Two Public Bible Lectures conducted by Bob Fahey. The subjects tied in with the Feast theme. The first one was the Message the Jesus Brought Has Been Suppressed." The second message was about the invitation we all have to be a part of the Kingdom of God. Bob Fahey also gave three of the Feast Sermons.
- Lithuanian visitors. We had four visitors from Lithuania as compared to only Henrikas Klovas by himself last year.
- Belarus. Natasha Gromova from Gomel traveled two full days and nights to come to Tartu. She had to take a train to Moscow and then from there to Estonia. She was baptized October 18th in the pool on the 13th floor of the Estiko Building in Tartu.
- Ukraine. Scott Merritt who is working in Odessa attended here.
- Translation. All services were translated simultaneously from English into Estonian by Mariina Viia, from English to Russian by Darlene Reddaway and two Russian sermonettes into English by Victor Kubik.
- Visit to Emajõe Kool. A delegation of about 20 of us visited the Emajõe Kool and had a tour of the school. We saw the gym equipment that was purchased from last year's contributions.
- Concert by children from Emajõe Kool. After services on Tuesday, children from the school performed for the Feast goers.
- Folklore Dancing and Singing. As last year about a dozen Estonians performed a half-hour folklore music and dance performance at the Theater Cafe.
- Visit with the Emajõe Kool children to farm. After the Tuesday concert we took about 30 children from the school out to a farm where we had a picnic and the children rode horses.
- Radio interview. On Monday evening Bob Fahey and Victor Kubik were interviewed by Pere radio, 89.0 FM for one hour. This is one of four religious radio stations in the nation of Estonia. We talked about the fact we held the Feast of Tabernacles here for four years and that we had worked with Emajõe Kool and explained WHY we keep the Feast.
- All day tour of Estonia's capital, Tallinn.
- Tour of Brewery. New this year. We toured the high-tech A le Coq brewery on the edge of Tartu.
- We are grateful for the hospitality of the Estonians who had us over to their homes on several occasions.
- Translated literature. Booklets The Gospel of the Kingdom and Sunset to Sunset, God's Sabbath Rest have been translated into Estonian along with the 8th lesson of the Correspondence Course.
